![]() This sparkling, high-wattage production of "Legally Blonde" continues through Oct. Clarie II's musical direction is excellent as always.Įric Chamness and Suzanne McCalla designed a considerable number of fine set pieces, which seem to arrive and depart without a hitch - thanks, no doubt, to a large, skilled backstage crew. Two cute dogs - the toy poodle Leonidas Ferreira (as Bruiser) and the bulldog Phoebe Buffay Berg (Rufus) - threaten to steal the show whenever they're on stage. Perkin, Jessica Eckenrod, Khristin Percell Stephens and the always funny Jonathan Kilpatrick. Several others in the cast offer deft contributions, including Jenna Troum, Lauren Sherr, Carter McCauley, Catherine Christophillis, Joel T. The actresses who play the sisters of Elle's sorority, Delta Nu, are terrific, particularly the three who often serve as Elle's personal backup singers: Karlee Ferreira, Kasie Granner and Becky Conner. Eric Chamness has some nice comic moments as Paulette's love interest Kyle. Christopher Rose, as the bloodthirsty lawyer/professor Callahan, is appropriately blunt and arrogant. Sam McCalla plays Elle's ex-love Warner as a smooth charmer. ![]() Blitzer offers a powerful "Ireland," a tuneful paean to that nation of "whiskey and love." Morton's Act II opener, "Whipped Into Shape," is a high-impact stunner.Ĭelia Blitzer is a fireball as Paulette, the beautician and confidante to Elle. Tiffany Morton cranks up the heat as a sexy fitness queen accused of murder. The women outshine the men vocally, but the acting across the board is strong.Ĭrocker, in the tour de force role of Elle, is an irresistible dynamo, soaring on big numbers like the Act I closer "So Much Better."ĭavid Bean has a knack for fully inhabiting every character he portrays, and in "Legally Blonde" he's perfect as Emmett, the teaching assistant whose easygoing attire and demeanor hide a steely determination. This spunky "Legally Blonde," with its energetic rock score (by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin), should appeal especially to teens and college-aged students - its usual target audience - though I hope Greenville Little Theatre's traditional patrons find it equally enjoyable. The young local cast performs the ensemble showstoppers with commitment and cheeky attitude. ![]() Omigod, you guys (to borrow the favorite phrase of the Delta Nu sisters), Greenville Little Theatre's "Legally Blonde" is a knockout.Ī terrific 29-member cast delivers this 2007 Broadway musical with pep, sass and enough electricity to light the city of Greenville.Īt the center of show, which opened Friday, is a powerhouse performance by Audrey Layne Crocker as Elle Woods, the pink-clad sorority girl who enrolls in Harvard Law School to win back her boyfriend.Īs the story progresses, Elle discovers that her knowledge of the law can help others, and she ends up defending a woman accused of murder.ĭirector Allen McCalla and choreographer Kimberlee Ferreira have given this season-opening production a brash momentum that never falters.įerreira's choreography is always ebullient but here she surpasses herself with a range of hyperkinetic dances from hip hop to aerobic and cheerleading moves, and even some Irish folk steps.
